If you live in Serrania's attendance area and your child will be five years old on or before December 2nd of the new school year, you may enroll your child at Serrania Avenue School. Roughly our area is bounded on the east by Winnetka Ave. and on the west by Owensmouth Ave north of Ventura Blvd and Tendilla Ave south of Ventura Blvd. Our southern boundary is Mulholland Bl. Our northern varies, east of De Soto, the northern boundary is Ventura Blvd. and west of De Soto, the northern boundary is Oxnard St.

If you are not sure whether you live in the Serrania attendance area, would like to take a tour of the school, or have any questions, you can call Serrania Elementary at (818)340-6700 between the hours of 9:00 and 3:30p.m.

You will need to bring the following documents to enroll:

• Proof of birth - (original Birth Certificate, Passport, Baptismal Certificate)
• Proof of address - (Gas or electric bill in your name and showing you address)
• Immunization records, which are complete. Kindergartners MUST have a MANTOUX (tuberculosis skin test) with results, given within the year of starting school).

Permit Enrollment
We have limited space in some grades for work or child care permits. A permit may be obtained only if space permits. Place name on waiting list and please be patient, as calls will not be made until the end of August, after neighborhood children have been enrolled. PLEASE DO NOT PROCEED WITH PAPERWORK until notified by school that you have been accepted.

Qualifications for a child care permit are that you are working full time or attending school full time and need child care within our school boundaries. If you work in our attendance area you can be your own child care provider. Kindergarteners and first graders may not stay on the yard after school. If you work outside of our attendance area you need to have child care at Serrania Ave or in our attendance area.

Each May, students across the district in grades 2 through 5 take standardized grade level exams which are called the California Standards Test or the CST. These tests are designed to measure how well the students have learned the grade level standards. The results of these exams are a ranking for each school called the API or Academic Performance Index and results are published each August. Our score for the 10/11 year was 860 which showed an improvement from the prior year.
