It was a good relaxing time for me.
This week is a four-day week, but we have plenty to do. Tuesday and Wednesday I will be gone. I am being sent to an advanced math training. I have hired Mrs. Pagan, who used to teach fourth and fifth grade at our school, as my substitute. I'm sure she will do a fine job. I will be back on Thursday. On Friday, I will be gone again. I have been invited to join Mrs. Toder and Mrs. Sperber to go to the California Distinguished Schools awards presentation. It was an invite I could not turn down!
The school year is winding down, but students have plenty to do. They are working hard to complete their Westward Movement projects, which culminate many of the skills we have been practicing this year. Fifth graders will find out who won the vote for culmination speeches. Two students will be chosen to read their speeches during culmination exercises. The winners will be announced on Thursday. Fifth graders will also begin to learn the music they will perform at culmination. Fourth graders will spend their extra time studying for their Performance Assessments in Science. The whole class will be taking the Unit Four Open Court Test on Thursday. We will also be finishing our novel "The Iron Dragon Never Sleeps" which is themed around the building of the transcontinental railroad.
So you see, we are very busy!
