The LAUSD District 1 Resource Coordinating Council is having their end of the year meeting on Thursday May 29th, 2008. There are 2 guest speakers that will be speaking on child development issues including eating disorders and "everything you want to know about the dangerous issues facing our children but were afraid to ask". Don't forget that every Tuesday after school there is fresh hot pizza available for only $1.00 per slice. The table is always set up at the end of the lunch area, closest to the cafeteria. Come grab a slice!!

Beginning January 22nd Serrania will be implementing NEW LUNCH & RECESS SCHEDULES, which will separate primary and upper grade students on the yard. These changes are being made to reduce the number of students at the lunch and play areas at one time which will aide with supervision and playground discipline.

We are also making changes to our procedures for students who forget their lunch tickets or money. Starting January 22nd, any student who forgets their lunch ticket or lunch money will wait until all other students have been served. The office will loan lunch money, however, it must be returned the following day. If a student is repeatedly without tickets or money the cafeteria will only provide milk, fruit and crackers per the district cafeteria policy. We are encouraging our students to be responsible and we appreciate your support in this endeavor.

Beginning January 17th all classes will line up in the general assembly area between the track and Room 1 & 6. Students should line up at their appointed location between 7:40 and the 7:55 warning bell. (classroom numbers will be painted on the yard surface) Students will no longer line up outside their classrooms. These same line up areas will be used after recess and lunch.

There is no better advice given to parents than to get involved in their children's school.
School involvement is rewarding on so many levels. The biggest impact is the message you send to your children - that their experience at Serrania is really important to you! You don't have to take it on as a full time job to reap the benefits - just get involved in whatever way you can and everyone wins!
